It’s important to dream big when designing your ideal bathroom, but acknowledging and working with the reality of your space is just as important. ![Important Things to Think About Before Remodeling a Bathroom](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Oftentimes, the excitement of taking on a bathroom remodel can steer you into making impulse decisions that are too far away from your objectives. Here are a few tips from our experts at South Shore Dream Bath on how to make sure your project goes according to plan. ## **Invisible Problems** Planning a bathroom starts with finding the right [contractors for bathroom remodel](https://southshoredreambath.com/) and renovation projects. During the initial meetings, you may want to focus on choosing color palettes, tile patterns, and other extra features. These are important, of course, but don’t forget to let your contractor inspect the old bathroom first. Sometimes, there will be unseen problems under the tiles that could potentially derail your dreams. - “Wet bed” tiles are common in older homes and can be expensive to remove. These tiles are often set directly on top of a concrete slab. Proper removal can take hours of work, driving your labor costs up. - Wall tiles in older homes can also be wet bed tiles, usually sitting on several layers of concrete and a wire lath. Demolishing these tiles can also be a lengthy process. ## **Showers and Tubs** Think about what your goals are for your bathroom. If you’re looking for aging-in-place upgrades, you can look for [bathtub remodeling companies](https://southshoredreambath.com/about-us/) to give you walk-in tubs or curbless showers. These two fixtures are often the focus of any bathroom remodel so take your time in choosing the right thresholds for your tub and shower. ## **Extra Features** Now that you’ve gotten the essentials out of the way, it’s time to look into additional features that would really make your dream bathroom come true. Consider heated floors to make the room even more comfortable. You can even install a mini toilet room to further improve your privacy. At South Shore Dream Bath, we are your leading provider of bathroom remodeling and design services.
